Room 202 has been full of learning, friendship, and teamwork as we have begun our school year! Take a look at some of the fun activities we have been up to!
Room 202 had such a fun time celebrating 100 days of learning! We incorporated this milestone into every part of the day. Together, we wrote 100 words on the board, we cut out the letters in "ONE HUNDRED" to make as many smaller words as we could, and we counted to 100 in different ways! One of the coolest activities was when the students worked in small groups to time one another and see what they could do in 100 seconds! They sang the alphabet, hopped on one foot, gave each other high fives, and came up with their own ideas! We also wrote about different 100 themes, including what we would do with 100 dollars, and what we would look like when we are 100 years old! We ended the day by laying out 100 footprints down the hall to see how far they could go! We had a great time!
Gingerbread Fred comes to visit 1st Grade each December! Students take him home for the day, then writes about their adventures! Students then share their writing, as well as small items that they played with during his visit! Each year, we make a book of Gingerbread Fred's Adventures!
One of my favorite ways to have students get to know each other at the beginning of the year is with their Me Bags. Students brought in a few pictures or items that represented who they are. They shared them with the class and answered questions and listened to comments!
The next few weeks will be super exciting as students get to take Gingerbread Fred, our Winter mascot, home for a night! Students will take care of Fred and write about his adventures. They will then share them with the class, and have the chance to bring in small treasures from his trip to their homes. We will then make a class book for students to look back at and remember their time with Gingerbread Fred! |
